The Vampire Lestat here. You know me: Hero, fiend. Big mouth. Bigger dreams.
And if you don't know me, you have a real treat coming your way.
I'm six feet tall, with wavy blond hair and gray eyes to die for. Or blue. The color varies with my mood, or the light - begone neon!- or just the color of my shirt, which is tonight a knockout slip of whisper-thin silk adorned with Bruxelle lace, so very soft against my preternaturally hard skin. I don't always dress like the eighteenth-century dandy I once was. Now, I like butter-soft leather and Brooks Brothers suits. I like linen and cotton and shiny black boots. I even like the ubiquitous denim that is the uniform of half the living world. And in the light of a hazy yellow streetlamp, I can appear the perfect replica of a twenty-first century mortal. Yeah, razzle-dazzle smile and everything.
I've even got me a cell phone. And a little laptop that I carry under one arm that makes me look like a student. Yes, Louis, I did buy one. Yes, to replace the last one that's I left on the Streetcar at St. Charles, the one that I didn't password protect. That one. But look at the little shiny keys. Look at how it gleams! And I do like props. What can I say? It's the actor in me.
But I'm not just your average creature of the night. I'm powerful, resourceful. Irresistibly charming. I've got tales to tell that will knock your socks off. I'm immortal. And yet I'm utterly powerless when the sun rises. I'm still a slave to my blood lust, which is more powerful than its ever been. And I still weep for my own lost innocence. My conscience torments me. But not tonight. So read on! While the magnolia flowers are shivering in a lazy Mississippi breeze. Let me seduce you.
