I stepped into the bar. Well, stepped isn't the right word. I snuck in. Somebody had left the back entrance a bit and I took my chance. I couldn't help it! I needed to know if vampires really exist just like they do in The Vampire Lestat novel. The bar was crowded. Good for me, I wouldn't be noticed...if I was lucky anyway. I slipped silently as possible past a bartender and crouched behind an empty table. I glanced around to make sure I wasn't being noticed. I was only twelve after all. I wasn't a bad kid or anything. I've never done anything illegal before but my curiosity tended to turn into...impulsiveness, I guess. My older twin brother was here too but he refused to accompany me inside. He would be the lookout. I wouldn't admit to being nervous but it helped to have him with me even though I had protection. I played with the lighter in my jeans pocket absentmindedly. I knew it wasn't much but it would at least scare a vampire to two away. I glanced around again and slumped into a chair. I noticed a man in the dimness holding a glass clearly full of red liquid...and it wasn't wine. I clasped a hand over my mouth to keep from gagging. Only Gabriel and my late mother knew this but...I have hemophobia, a fear of blood. I breathed in and out deeply to stop myself from fainting. That blood is nowhere near you, you'll be fine. I kept telling myself that. Besides, you have to know if they exist so you can't back out now. I pressed my back into the plush seat and let myself get lost in the soothing song that was playing. It was probably a song for couples to kiss to on the dancefloor. I smiled, dreaming of the time when I would get that wonderful pleasure. I snapped back to reality after the song changed into a hard rock bash. If I kept daydreaming...night-dreaming? I'd loose focus. I want to talk to someone, anyone, anyone that can give me a shred of proof that vampires really are real.
