The lost boy
The boy must have been about eight, maybe ten years old. Round of cheeks, his sorrowful brown eyes were at the antipodes of whatever displayed youth from his face. The glint of wariness deep, deep within his hues seemed like mirroring timeless pains and troubles. It was unsettling to behold with what calm he would walk his way around. Discreetly. Unnoticed. A faded figure all covered in dirt. From the ragged old fashioned clothes, his very plumb cheeks streaked with dried tears, to his dark and tangled mane.
If the boy was frozen on spot out of sheer surprise, Thaddeus, on his side, wasn't the least. In fact, the rather tall man left the comfortable seat he had occupied until then, leaving a generous payment for his barely touched cup of tea, and made his way closer. The boy hesitated for a little while, visibly unsure if he had been truly noticed and what to do if so. Escaping appeared to be the best choice.
Turning away on his heels, the boy ran towards the nearest street, where Thaddeus followed in peaceful steps. He had no mean to scare the boy, nor to harm him in any way. He merely was curious. Curious on how many time this poor soul had been wandering there, lost, restless and tormented. What was he seeking?
Finally, he spotted the petite shape not so far from him, apparently cornered on the back end of the street. Good. There would be a chance to engage in talking after all. Keeping a good distance from him Thaddeus crouched and offered at the boy a warm smile.
"Hello there. I'm Thaddeus, but you can call me Thad. Can you tell me your name?" He wasn't really expecting an answer, but he had to make sure the boy could understand him. Or, simply just hear him, some ghosts were incapable of...
"I can't say, Sir. They won't let me." The boy replied in a shaky voice, right before vanishing from sight.
"Well... That's interesting." Thaddeus let out in a soft murmur. They? Surely, he would find any mention of Them in the secret files awaiting for him on his new office. But for now, he would rise up again, hands digging in his pockets as he simply walked away.
