This board is so large that I seem to have difficulty finding my way around at times.
I'm just wondering if old stories or topics with no posts are in the process of being archived? I remember Gabrielle mentioning that somewhere. There's a lot going on, which is great, but I notice that I spend a lot of time scrolling to locate the section or topics that I'm looking for.

Not a problem Armand, I'll work on that right away.
Our old stories are being kept in place because, like our current IS story, those stories became very big and we have plans on returning to those stories.
However, I will rework the board to make it easier to maneuver, as well as delete areas with zero posts.
Thanks for your input!

No rush at all, Gabrielle! Just thought I'd mention it.
I completely understand about the old stories. Just wasn't sure if the folks who initially worked on them were still around.
Thanks for all the work you do here!

We had some writers in the past, one who initially got me into writing on his own forum, and many others who were very good and wrote lots of stories here. They are officially archived. We were hoping they would eventually return, but time goes on.
The Bahamas,
Miami The Casino,
Back in Time,
Santino's causing chaos
All these stories are my own as Gabrielle de Lioncourt. They each contained about 100 story posts. These stories have all been hidden until the stories are revived.
The Kitsune storyline will disappear at the end of the month because I believe in fairness, and so I'm giving that writer up until then to begin their story posts.

Thanks, it's ok, they are not gone just put away until we reopen them.

Now, when they are reopened they will again crowd the forum, but it's ok because there are some great stories in there.
I might suggest:
To quickly find the newest post click the "Participated" link above right under "logout" and it will give you every post most recently made so that you don't have to go up and down each thread to find something. It solves the headache of scrolling up and down.
Another way I get around faster is if you click on your profile, or anyone else's, and click most "recent posts." That will give you all of that members most recent posts.
Aside from that, our friendly bats let us know what threads have recent posts so that you can just look for the bats and ignore the candelabras and not have to read each thread link to find new posts.

Yes, indeed. It has been quite a few years since I was last on Proboards. Still, you've made a real difference. Thanks.

Ah, I'm using the other layout so it's open or closed folders for me, but yes, thank you very much. I sincerely hope that your old writers return some day.

Well, it's up to you what layout you choose to use, but for me the things I mentioned above really help me to get around fast, especially on the cell phone.
If I might be so bold to ask, what proboards vc group did you belong to? I'm asking because I thought I knew them all. Cass and I originally came from Children of the Millennia. It was a group mostly from Europe, so Cass and I were the only Americans on it.
Also, a question a bit less invasive, we currently have 5 members, and I would like to get more because, the busier the board the longer it will last is my past experience. My question is, would either of you be interested in writing with other VC characters? I will still invite them, but it's good for me to know ahead of time who would like to write with say; David, Marius, Pandora, Bianca, etc.
Generally, when I have a full board at most a dozen writers, I expect them to find their own partners/stories, but I do help them find someone to write with too. Also, when we get more VC writers each board will become "Ask permission to join." So that you won't feel you are forced to write with someone.
Other Stories is kind of the exception to that rule because the storylines are so open and expanding.
One last question since I have you both on the same thread, would you like us to revitalize the games section "The Colisum" We usually have a dozen games there and some find them fun and others find them lame. So I'm asking as I will eventually put them all on, unless you would like to see them back now.

Damn. That was so long ago, I'm not sure I can even remember the name and I should do, it was our own! We're pushing twenty years ago.
Mists of time.
To be fair, Gabrielle - and I think I can speak for Armand here - we probably won't have time for games, only writing. And only this, I think, because it's light and fast and doesn't involve reams of prose. We are happy to support you with more characters, but we should probably make it plain that we might not be able to commit to it all for any real length of time. The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and all that.
I have played practically everyone at some point or another, but I gravitate towards male characters. Let me find Armand and see what we can do.

Oh, that's ok, I was just trying to get a general idea because you know, I will eventually be asked. And, I can understand cause I'm not someone that automatically writes with someone else, which is why I love playing Gabrielle, she is a loner as I am.
Twenty years! Wow, and I thought me and Cass were a step ahead by our ten plus years!
No worries if you see the games section up and don't play them, I'm not big on them but I know many love to play them.
I honestly hope ya'll both stick around for a long time, but that's cause it's so hard to find quality writers.
Both of you just take it easy here and write as you will. I think the whole thing goes down hill when it becomes to feel like a job and not a game for enjoyment.

Haha! We've been around a very long time and probably popped into every board out there at some point in time!
I think we would both be happy to jump into other VC roles should a certain character be needed in a story line or if we might be interested in playing out something new. Would it be a good idea to keep an eye on the Characters Wanted board?
Thank you for your kind words about our writing! You are exactly right about the whole thing going downhill when it feels like a job. We've been at that point before. That's what we've enjoyed about this place so far. No stress, no pressure, just writing for fun!

I understand. Role-playing demands a certain instinct for both the course of a story and for the people with whom you write. There's a lot of give and take in it, because any single writer is just one part of a whole. Some people leave no room for others. They write "closed" pieces. I like writing with Louis. We work well together. We give each other room. Still, I'm happy to write with anyone. But some people prefer to write alone, because they can't find that balance with others.
As I said, time might become more of a premium for us, but as my partner in crime said: "should a certain character be needed in a story line or if we might be interested in playing out something new." Exactly that. Let us know your general thoughts.

I am for whatever works best for each person and for everyone as a unit. In the past, as moderator, everyone wanted to write with me, and that was exhausting because I write as characters that prefer to be alone. Cass writes with me and has from the beginning, but she also has characters she writes into the story that don't interact with me in the story. She knows I prefer fast paced and not dragging the piece out. We both write as many characters. I have been Lestat and Santino, and many originals. She has been Stirling Oliver, yes he is cannon, and many originals.
We will play the whole thing by ear and just see what happens. If someone signs in and has no VC writing partner then they will just have to find their own, which is usually better anyway. As a rule I never fix what isn't broken and at the moment everything is going fluidly and I couldn't be happier.
Also, if you see me not posting as Gabs, or as anyone else, I have many things going on at home that I'm trying to balance out. But when I do begin to write, it is fast and furious and I make up for the lost time in every way imaginable.

Indeed, we're all juggling other things.
Ah, Santino. He's a favourite of mine too. I play him a little nasty though. Thoroughly medieval.
We have no expectations of you, Gabrielle! You belong in the jungle communing with trees.
If you'd like more characters to spice up the present story, we'd actually be all for that. There is enough space there for several others - either VC or otherwise. We will happily hand over extra VC characters should anyone else show interest.

Yes, I love that character! I too play him very evil, sinister and seeking vengeance! In my story he kidnaps Louis and keeps him captive in a Dungeon in Transylvania with Dracula's help, lol.
To be honest I am not the biggest fan of the other VC characters, but I appreciate that they do add to the stories, I guess aside from those already here my favorites are Santino and Marius.
I have a very long fanfic that I wrote long before rpging, I'm thinking to post it here. It has all the characters and centers Nicholas de Lefent, another favorite of mine. I bring him back from the dead.
My bigger worry isn't the VC stories, I am currently stumped with my own story which is the Nightmare Island story. I think it's mostly writers block, but I'm also used to having many writers and writing off their thoughts and actions.
Goodnight for real this time! I mean it!
Nite.

Louis plays a superb Nicki. Passionate and utterly unhinged. I highly recommend it.
My Santino isn't exactly canon, but that would be dull. I like Coven Master Santino. Afraid of nothing. Totally deranged in his beliefs, yet completely sincere.
Ok, well, I can have a look at that thread, if that is any help.

Thanks for reading the Island thread. I know The Beginning was a hard read, I explained why in the pm. The story continues is really where the story takes place.
Yes, I love that coven master Santino, I think he was unappreciated and misunderstood. In his mind he was just trying to make something wrong, right, by destroying evil...destroying the vampires. I've written two stories for him, and in one of them he seeks revenge on the whole coven by stealing Louis.
It would be fun to make up a story for Nicky, but at the moment I am all out of ideas. I could post the beginning of my fanfic where I bring him back and see where that might lead, but I don't want to post as Nicky, I'd rather Louis take him on if he wants him.

It was certainly a bit stodgy. I've messaged my thoughts on the why.
I stole Louis once, though not as Santino. That was fun. Unfortunately I played against a Lestat who wept and didn't act. Poor Louis. I was ruthless.
I wouldn't worry about Nicki yet. We'll have a think.

Stealing Louis is tricky because you don't want to trap the writer in an, you're just berating and beating on me and I'm not strong enough to do anything but complain about the treatment. Possibly a reason Rice never went there, plus she evolved him later.
Yes, we are all busy in stories now, personally I would want a Nicky story to take priority over other stories. He's really a strong character I wish she hadn't killed him off.

Agreed. I think it depends on the quality of the story.
Too often, characters are made to act in order to fulfil a set plot. Then it doesn't have veracity. But if they act as it is natural for them to do and the plot follows from personality, it works. So capture Louis, yes. But Louis doesn't have to spend his time moping about, rattling chains - however decorative that is. His experience of capture should, in itself, be a part of the overarching story.

And then of course there is Louis' revenge, as Rice wrote it the Theater de Vampires, they captured him and walled him in a coffin, he escaped and then killed them all off by setting the place on fire. So, Louis isn't totally helpless and whining, his anger allows him to escape and get revenge.

I have never seen Louis as either helpless or whining. Far from it!
I see him as a clever, stubborn and well-defined individual. With glaring faults, of course. But you have to be pretty damn pig-headed to manage a life with moi. The books are both designed to be highly subjective in nature.

Agree, Rice wrote them for the reader to make their own opinion on the characters.
I can't help but think about an article I recently read about what Brad Pitt thought of portraying Louis. Not a quote, He was a nightmare to play! The man just wants to kill himself through the entire movie! I'll never play such a dark character again! (lol, complaining)
On working with Tom, He and I are North and South, we didn't get along through the whole movie as he is very demanding and I like to take life easy and I will never work with him again, but as an actor I respect his work, which made his portrayal of Lestat come to life! (lol, complaining, while still loving the actor that gave him hell!)
The actors are totally Louis and Lestat even out of character!

Ah yes.
I can't say that Brad Piit gained my respect by the way he approached the film. By all accounts, he refeused to do any preparation. It shows. He was acted off the screen by Tom Cruise who read the books and worked hard at the role. That also shows.

Tom always goes above and beyond when he takes on a role. I think today Brad realizes that he took advantage of being given parts easily without having to work for them just due to his looks. Brad has said that he's embarrassed by the amount of movies he's made compared to everyone else his age and he's decided to retire early because of it. He was also very young when he did IwTV so there's that immaturity, plus we don't know what off screen direction he was given. Whatever the case his lack of prep for the role does show. Either way, I love both Brad and Tom in their portrayals! It kind of scares me what new actors will do with these roles.

You are very generous. Frankly, if I were paid millions to do a job, had a choice in the matter and said yes, I'd give it my full commitment. In my mind, to do otherwise would be, at the very least, dishonourable.
There's been a lot of debate surrounding the new series - assuming that it ever gets off the ground. A good thirty years will have passed since the movie: a generation. It will certainly be a very different animal.
